Gert oversees Woolworths’ Fishing for the Future seafood sustainability programme and works closely with their international and local seafood supply chains to implement best management practices and continuously improve sustainability outcomes, including taking climate change action. Gert holds a master’s degree in Livestock Industry Management: Aquaculture from Stellenbosch University. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the seafood sector, co-founded an abalone ranching company and has in the past consulted to government institutions, non-government organisations and private companies, mainly in Africa.
