John Hargreaves is an aquaculture expert with 40 years of experience in research, teaching and development. For the past 13 years, he has been a freelance consultant on commercial aquaculture and development projects. He has expertise in water quality management, engineering design assessments and Best Management Practices. He has broad international experience in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East and has worked with commercially important finfish, shellfish and crustaceans in a wide range of freshwater and marine production systems. He is also Editor-in-Chief of World Aquaculture magazine, a quarterly publication of the World Aquaculture Society.  

 

 

Dr. Francis Murray

Dr. Francis Murray has 28 years’ experience in the aquaculture industry including, academic research, rural development and consultancy. This has given him a broad inter-disciplinary perspective on the aquaculture sector and a detailed understanding of the interaction of market, technology, management, and the physical, social and economic environment. He currently specializes in global value chain analysis, leads a UKRC/DFID project researching preventative health management in Asian and African aquaculture (IMAQulate) and is in a Horizon2020 consortium (PRIMEFISH) researching competitiveness of European aquaculture and fisheries. Previously, Dr. Murray coordinated a highly inter-disciplinary EU-FP7 large-scale, collaborative research project ‘Sustaining Ethical Aquaculture Trade’ which assessed the sustainability of major export seafood commodity groups farmed in Asia.

 

 

Aimee Russillo

Aimee Russillo has over 25 years’ experience in international sustainable development. Russillo works with supply chain actors, NGOs and governments to integrate sustainability into operations, strategic decision making and more effectively managing for impact under real world conditions. She is an expert on social and environmental standards and eco-labelling programs.  She facilitates the UN based international Technical Working Group on Benchmarking and actively participates as an independent expert in several global benchmarking initiatives. Russillo has a joint MBA and Juris Doctor and is based in the US, having lived and worked in Europe, Latin America and Africa.

 

 

Sally Ananya Surangpimol

Sally Ananya Surangpimol is a pioneer in standards-setting and conformity assessments for food exports and imports, with a special focus on integrated management systems. Originally from the Philippines, she completed her B. Sc and M. Sc at Tokyo University of Fisheries, one of the first women to do so.  For the past 30 years, Sally has lived and worked in Thailand, assisting stakeholders within the global food supply chain, especially in the high-risk seafood industry. She has worked with both public and private organizations within Asia-Pacific, North America, Africa and Europe on developing and adapting industry-tailored systems for compliance to international standards, and accountability and visibility in global markets. Leading The Food School’s projects, she supports retailers, producers, associations, NGOs/CSOs, UN/ government agencies, and academia, in research, consultation, auditing and training, to develop and enhance food safety, quality, sustainability, and environmental and social systems. Her work encourages legal frameworks and interpretation guidelines that facilitate cost-effective, practical and harmonized standards implementation worldwide.        Sally speaks five languages.

 

 

Nigel Peacock

Nigel Peacock has over 40 years’ experience in aquaculture and fisheries, working on a wide range of seafood sector activities with a focus on sustainability. Peacock’s resume includes, directing major fisheries management projects (e.g. management of the Peruvian anchoveta fishery, one of the world’s largest) and providing guidance for aquaculture schemes (salmon, shrimp, seabass & seabream, tilapia, pangasius). Furthermore, he has experience in feasibility assessments, market research, investor due diligence, trade analysis and the regulatory environment. Nigel has worked in 100 countries globally across the Americas, Europe & Former Soviet Union, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Oceania.

 

 

Bruno Séchet

After studying veterinary medicine in France and Germany, working 23 years in the Food Industry, and 2 years as technical director of IFS, Bruno Séchet has founded Integralim, company which mission is to help companies and organizations to assess and mitigate their risks to improve food and systems integrity.
He has worked across more than 25 countries, occupying 12 jobs at operational, regional or corporate level, and been involved in:

Sarah has over 20 years experience in the food industry in manufacturing, retail and audit. Sarah’s expertise is in developing, implementing and auditing technical/quality standards and policies.  She worked for Tesco in the UK for over 10 years, implementing standards and managing supplier assurance. She was responsible for implementing global auditor training and consistency in the Tesco Group. Since leaving Tesco she has worked as an independent consultant with clients primarily in the UK & Netherlands.

 

 

Osires de Melo

Osires de Melo graduated in 1981 in Recife, Brazil, on Fishing and Aquaculture Engineering. In his 40 years of experience, he designed several fish and shrimp farms, hatcheries, and processing plants. He even found time to be the President of the Latin American Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society for two terms.

Osires is also an experienced auditor for Fishing and Aquaculture as well as Agriculture and Social Certification Standards, diligently doing his job in many countries across 4 continents.

 

 

Dr. Sophie Fridman

Dr Sophie Fridman has over 25 years of experience in the aquaculture industry that includes research, commercial experience and consultancy work. She has worked with many commercially important finfish species in a wide range of production systems and for the past seven years has been a Research Fellow at the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, with her research focusing on vaccine development and health and welfare of farmed salmonids. She currently works as an independent consultant with a range of international clients.

 

 

Jose Peiro Crespo

Jose is an independent fisheries consultant and founding partner of Naunet Fisheries Consultants, a consultancy firm based in Norwich (UK). He holds a degree in Biology and marine sciences and postgraduate studies in Biostatistics and Sustainable Development.

Jose has more than 15 years of experience working in a wide range of projects related to marine biodiversity and the sustainable use of living aquatic resources. He started his career working as a commercial and scientific fisheries observer and as a fisheries scientist in research centres in Spain and Portugal. Since then, Jose has worked as Aquaculture expert, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultant and Independent Fisheries Consultant. During these experiences, his work has focused on collecting and analysing data and developing initiatives to improve the management of marine resources and the living conditions in coastal communities.

Jose is currently working as an independent fisheries expert for several certification and rating programs including: the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)), the Marin Trust – Marine ingredients organization, the Monterey Bay Aquarium - Seafood Watch program, the UK Marine Conservation Society - Good Fish Guide program and other rating programs. He has assessed more than 300 fisheries in recent years which has given him a very good knowledge about international fisheries, their impacts on habitats, species, ecosystem and livelihoods; fisheries management; and related issues such as food security, IUU fishing, MCS and human rights abuses.

Iain Pollard

Iain has 20 years of experience with seafood sustainability certification. His career began as an MSC chain of custody auditor back when there were just 5 certified fisheries and has since involved providing clients with independent advice on seafood sustainability including aquaculture production systems, sustainable fishery management and policy, social accountability auditing in aquaculture and fisheries, and advising retailers, processors and seafood trading companies. Iain is a qualified social accountability auditor and worked extensively on various aquaculture and fishery social and sustainability standards for private companies and internationally-recognised organisations.

 

 

Robin Pelc

Robin Pelc has a long history of collaborating with leading organizations in the sustainable seafood movement, including reviews of sustainable fisheries programs globally. Robin holds a Ph.D. in Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.S. and B.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford University. Before joining the MFE team, Robin was former Fisheries Program Manager of the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program where she developed the scientific criteria used to assess worldwide fisheries operations and managed the development of Seafood Watch assessments. Robin is also founder of Sea Change Scientific Consulting LLC and Lecturer in Marine Science at California State University Monterey Bay.
